Countdown to Christmas at LEJ Designs

Hello, All
Time for a lovely new challenge at

We are having a
Countdown to Christmas
theme and hope you will share
your creations with us this week.

There is  a freebie on LEJ Designs, too.

He will only be free for a limited time so why not pop over and capture:
 Mozpoz Santa Claws?

I have made a hybrid project this week, using the image:

by

For anyone new to that expression, it simply means I have combined paper techniques with electronic techniques.
My colouring is by hand using Promarker Pens and Flexmarker Pens but I have used masking techniques with a single chorister to produce a full choir on two levels using Craft Artist Professional 2.
It has just dawned on me that I had not set my scanner to a high enough resolution, d'oh!
I would love to get proficient enough with Craft Artist to colour in digital images inside the programme but I have  a feeling those days are far away yet.:)  Although I am able to change the colour of a blank image!  Who! Hoo!
The setting I achieved by using embellishments from digi kits and playing around with them a lot . I added one background from a digi kit too.
(Altered art the digital way? Interesting idea!)

Love and Peace,
Vee xx
I am adding this later in the week as I have been told by a couple of friends that I have not left enough information for people interested in digital work.
I have to say an expert will probably have a laugh at how
I get to my end result as everything I do
is a bit hiss and mit (lol!)
So here goes.
I masked the boys because when you buy a digital image from LEJ Designs you get three versions; the jpeg, the clear background png and the totally clear png.
I used the clear background as that lets you put them closer together without having to worry about the backgrounds. I coloured one boy first using promarkers but did not colour his hair and skin.
I scanned him in and copied several times and grouped them into a choir. I made the alter rail from a small metal gate embellishment I just pulled and resized cut and stretched and copied until it resembled a rail. The pew was a very, small dark  wooden bench I recoloured it, resized it and cropped it and then placed it so that the boys would somewhere to stand and sit.
The screeen at the back was smaller and I copied it and grouped them together and resized, recoloured and sent to back to be a backdrop to the boys. Then I added a neutral background from a digi kit.
The three embellishments I think I found in one of the steampunk digi kits and the background I am not sure but it is quite neutral and may even have been from a free kit.
Once the scene was set and I had my choir  I printed it out and coloured the skin and hair differently for each boy using promarkers.   I then scanned it back in and at this point I should have used a higher resolution as I lost a lot of the detail from my colouring. Of course anyone who has sussed out how to colour in Craft Artist is  colouring inside the programme but  I am not sure how to do that properly and I actually love colouring with my promarkers so it suits me.
Once everything was scanned in I cut around the heads and necks and pasted them onto the original choir group, resizing to get the best fit and that was that.
I am totally convinced there are a dozen ways to do it better but that is what I did
I hope that helps.
Vee xx

  22. Fabulous card, love how made a choir from one image. I have thought of trying to paint my images digitally but so far any attempt has been a dismal failure. Maybe some day:O)

  28. Hi Vee, I have just come back to read how you did this card, and to be honest, I am still none the wiser, as I am still at the very early learning stage in using Craft Artist, but however, you created it, it is wonderful.

  31. Thank you so much for so many lovely commments; I am rather overwhelmed. I have now added a clearer "how to" but as I am only a basic user of Craft Artist 2 it might be a clunky/clumsy way to many! Love and Peace, Vee xx
